How I healed a cavity, while breastfeeding AND pregnant!

Clip Art source

FINALLY I am writing this post! It's been months since the cavity was healed.  But you know, 3 boys, 1 baby boy on the way, life is hectic! So I'll keep this short and simple! Hopefully ;)

In October 2012 I had horrible pain in my right jaw.  I thought it was TMJ, but one morning I woke up with an abscess on the roof of my mouth! Ahhhhhh!!!!!! It was AWFUL.  So after a trip to the doctor, and put on antibiotics, I had that tooth pulled a week later.  Sad I know.  That tooth was too far gone for saving I think since it was dead.

Oh and a cool side note....I went to the chiropractor finally for the pain of what I thought was TMJ, but after my body was aligned properly, my immune system was able to form the abscess to drain all the yuck that was causing all that pain! Amazing! With in just a few hours of being adjusted the abscess formed.

So, at the dentist I find out, I have two on my bottom right that "need" root canals.  Then two on the bottom right also that are normal cavities that need filling.  Well super depressed because a year before this I had 12 cavities filled when I never EVER had a cavity in my whole life!  I wondered WHY my teeth were decaying so badly!  Then I figured out it's because of being pregnant and breastfeeding for over 6 years straight.

Anyways,  I had decay on the bottom of my right eye tooth.  I could see it, it was brownish gray along the gum/tooth line, and this tooth bothered me quite a bit.  I was worried about it since it was in the front, and thought I better get it filled.  I knew I didn't want root canals because of the complications they can cause and the expense! {I have NOT healed those bottom two yet, they were very deep.  The teeth are still alive, but it will take a while to heal those. Praying I won't need root canals or extractions}.   Desperate, I googled a thousand times how to heal a cavity.  I even saw a second dentist that goes to my church for an honest opinion and he said I really needed root canals and fillings.  I cried. Right there in the chair.  I asked in desperation, "Is there any way to heal a cavity naturally?" he said in all honesty, "No. I know you will see things online but they don't work."  Which made me cry even more.

I decided to full force try to heal these bad boys myself.  I read Wellness Mama's blog about healing cavities, I ordered "Cure Tooth Decay" book on Kindle and flew through it.  I ordered Weston Price's book, "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" and The Healthy Home Economist blog about healing her sons cavity.
I was motivated.  I believed God created our bodies to heal. If a broken arm can heal why can't a decayed tooth?
I ordered Fermented Cod Liver Oil,  and I used Essential oils on my tooth.  I cut back on grains and nuts which contain phytic acid which block mineral absorption. I ate grass fed butter, and occasional bone broth. I tried to drink raw milk or eat raw cheese when I could. But the main things that healed my cavity, that I was consistent at was:

1. Taking Fermented Cod Liver Oil (I doubled the dosage for a month because of breastfeeding. I was taking 12 capsules of Cod Liver Oil/ Butter Oil Blend).
2. And putting Young Living Thieves essential oil directly onto the tooth 3-5 times a day.  I would put a drop in my hand, then put the floss in the oil, and floss directly on the decay with the Thieves.
3. I cut out gluten for 4 months, so I was eating less grains (only some corn), and I cut back on sugar. I never could cut sugar out all the way!

It was 4-5 months after that dentist visit that my first cavity healed.  About a month after I upped my FCLO dosage, I was using a dental scrapper (you can buy at walmat) scrapping my teeth for plaque like I do from time to time, and WHOA! All the decay on my lower right eye tooth scrapped right out!!! FOR REALS!  I put it on my finger, it was like tiny pieces of dead bone, they were sharp.  I looked and looked and LOOKED for decay on that tooth and it was all GONE! Smooth, white tooth was now present.  This is no joke, and no exaggeration.  I was so pumped I saved the decay to show my hubby lol.

This tooth was really bothering me for several months.  And now it's all better!  I still have those big cavities I'm trying to heal, and I still have a few other small ones.  But it can be done!!!

When I scrapped out the decay, I was already several weeks pregnant with baby boy #4 and I was still breastfeeding baby boy #3 several times a day.  SO IT CAN BE DONE!!!!!!!!!! It takes consistency.  FCLO is AMAZING.

Okay.  I'm done.  Please let me know if you have any questions :)

That is way cool! Did you go back to your dentist or the dentist at your church and show them the progress? I would love to know their reaction. Lol I'm so glad you've gotten relief from your hurting teeth, and that is really neato about the adjustment and the abscess. I hear awesome things about chiropractic care if you get the right person.

Amazing what nutrition can do?! I read both those blogs and have the book too all in attempts to do what you did. I have IBS and had to cut out ALL dairy and a lot more so for five years I was very sick and deficient in nutrients until a year ago when my teeth started falling apart, I started on calcium supplements. Now, I still take calcium, switched to organic raw whole food multi vit-min-herb supplents and try my hardest to follow the book guidelines. You give me hope that I can reverse the two cavities I have!

I'm doing the very same thing. I'm doing FCLO and Thieves, no sugar, grains or vegetable oils. But you are doing it a lot more than I. My tooth is still infected but I got the pain to stop. I've been pain free since November. But I can still see some infection come from the side at times. I'm going to triple everything I'm doing, then maybe it will heal all the way!

What kind of floss did you use?

Adrienne said...

@Jill I too had digestive problems and still do from time to time! It totally effects how we absorb nutrients. You can do it! Keep it up!

@Carolyn Yes upping the dosage was key for me. They say to take 6-8 caps a day just for minimum.

I used just regular floss, the one with the handle on it :)

@Staci I went back to the first dentist and he didn't even see the cavity on his xrays. and the teeth that he said need root canals he said, "they look about the same" so who know what that means! Haven't told the dentist at my church yet, I feel like he will think I'm crazy lol

I try to keep my diet VERY clean and started preparing grains via soaking and sprouting, and added in grassfed butter. I wasn't trying to heal cavities, just trying to be healthy. When I went to the dentist I was nervous because I hadn't been in years, and knew I probably needed a filing. I did need three, they were minor. The dentist then zeroed in on one tooth and kept poking and looking, like she saw something strange. She told me this tooth had a cavity and had healed itself, she looked very puzzled. Yes, you can heal cavities!

Anonymous said...

Adrienne, can you heal cavities that already have fillings in the tooth?

Anonymous said...

praise God - i have some issues with certain teeth, so this is encouraging. the only reason FCLO worked is because God is amazing. he made the fish that the oil comes from. :)

Tracey Rose said...

Far out - that's pretty amazing! I didn't know you could heal teeth, but I guess that makes sense now you mention it.

Courtney said...

I've only recently heard of remineralizing teeth. And now with the new research that flouride does more harm than good, it's good to know that we have a line of defense other than the drill.

I came upon your post from a google search. I have been nursing or pregnant (sometimes both) for 9 years. My teeth went to pot after #4 was born. They make me want to cry and cause me worry and stress. I've been taking flco and butter oil for a year but it sounds like my dosage wasn't high enough. I also drink raw grass fed cows milk. I think that you have given me great hope. I will cut out all grains, up my flco and butter oil, cut out most sugar. Oh, I also brush with sea salt and essential oils and oil pull when I can. Thanks so much.

Adrienne said...

@celia seems like you are doing great! Just up the dosage of FCLO, and remember if the cavities are big it will take longer. Hang in there mama!

PS I BRUSH With a fluoride free toothpaste! :)

I was wondering where the recommendation for 6-8 capsules came from (Cure Tooth Decay)?? I too have a cavity that I'm trying to heal. I need to order some FCLO, trying to decide how much to order and if I should buy the FCLO/Butter Oil blend or buy them separately? Thanks so much!

Emily Allie said...

When you used the Thieves oil did you dilute it? Or just use it as is?

Adrienne said...

@Tiffany I use the FCLO/Butter oil blend capsules. Yes Cure Tooth DEcay says to take a tsp and a half or so and I heard him on a podcast say that, and Green Pastures said 8 caps is about a tsp. :)

@Emily I did not dilute it. just used it straight :)

Thank you very much!

Thanks for sharing your success.
Did the regime affect any of the teeth that already have fillings in them? Any loosening of the fillings or healing of those teeth ?
Thanks, Sandra

Adrienne said...

@Sandra, it did NOT affect any of my teeth with fillings. No lose fillings or anything. Even if it did, it'd be because new tooth was forming, which would be good. But no I've never heard of that happening :)

This gives me soooo much hope! I was just diagnosed with a cavity and a few others that need "watching". I knew about healing cavities through CLO and BO but was not taking it consistently enough to prevent, so now, I know I need to bite the bullet and do the work. But Ive been scared because of tandem nursing if it will work since my body is doing so much other work. This is so encouraging! I really don't want to go have it filled. I want it to heal. And with a hopeful time frame of just a few months. It gives me motivation to try. Thank you!

Unknown said...

This is REALLY inspiring. I have been following the "Cure tooth decay' diet for a few months now and I'm slowly starting to see and feel some progress. We're trying to get pregnant with #3 so this is so helpful to hear that it can be done while pregnant and nursing! YAY! Keep up the great work!

I personally have to dilute. Thieves is a strong oil blend.

Thanks for the post Adrienne! I'm nursing my 5mo.old and working on two cavities. Where did you order your FCLO from?

Oh! I just saw the link.

Thanks so much for this wonderful info! A question about thieves oil: Does it have teeth healing cavities, or is it more of a pain reliever/anti-inflammatory?
I have a problem tooth, where the dentist did not clean well when filling a deep cavity. The decay he left, grew and caused nearly half my tooth to break off :( He used the filling substance to refill after recleaning, and then shaped the filling stuff around to "make" a half of a tooth. Its bothering me again now, and some of the filling in the middle has fell out. He had said I may need a root canal on the tooth in the future.I don't want to lose my tooth! :( I don't know if there is new decay, or if the sensitivity/pain is there because of the small amount of filling that has come out. But Im excited to try your regimen! I've had only about 4 teeth filled in my 33 years, but some of the cavities have been re-curring, as in decay under the filling...which seems weird to me, being that I floss 1-3 times a day and brush 2-3 times a day for a good amount of time. Has anyone had any experience with healing cavities that have formed under fillings? Or is there hope of healing a filled tooth? I have no insurance so I've asked God for a miracle...that the filling would just fall out one day because a brand new tooth would grow in it's place... maybe this is the beginning of that miracle :) Thanks for your help!
Because of Jesus,
Candace

I'm so inspred to see your blog I have cavities too. However, I strongly believe our body can heal itself. I am starting this healing diet right now. Can I ask you one thing? you said you don't eat vegetable oils but what about coconut oil? I read that coconut oil is beneficial to heal cavities Do you think it is ok to consume it? .. I want to hear your opinion, advice for this.

Unknown said...

I thought I was reading about myself. I've never had a cavity and then have been struggling with tooth decay since I had my first daughter six years ago. Did you have any worries taking FCLO while pregnant? It has been a miracle for me, but I've come across a couple of warnings (even on WAPF) about it. I don't want to undo my progress during my next pregnancy. But also don't want to worry about birth defects! Thank you for your article!

Adrienne said...

Oh Candace I'm sorry :( ugh dentists need to be more careful!! I believe if you go have decay it can still heal under the filling. I would think, I'm not sure. Have you checked the book cute tooth decay?

Adrienne said...

Hi!! Yes we eat coconut oil and olive oil :) you can also "oil pull" w coconut oil for added benefits

Adrienne said...

I have read on the WAPF website that you should take 20 capsules a day while pregnant and breastfeeding but Only if you drink the recommended quart of milk a day as well as thier other recommendations. 12 capsules isn't even a tsp. :) good luck mama!!!!!

Wow, that's pretty cool. I've never heard of someone using the oil as part of the regimen but hey, if it works, it works. Great to hear you healed the cavity!

Thank you so much for posting this. I have been living with a horrible toothache since February and I just believe that God can heal my tooth and take away the pain. It's 3a and I'm up because I can't sleep. The pain is that severe. I just ordered my Thieves Oil and trying to get the fish oil capsules now. Thanks so much for sharing! God bless!

Unknown said...

Hello! Can you link what kind of blended BO/FCLO capsules you used or where you got them? Thank you!!!

Anonymous said...

This is so helpful, thank you. I am breastfeeding and taking 8 capsules of anything seems a lot, but I will give it a shot. After both my girls, I had root canals and just had a cavity filled yesterday. I am in a lot of pain--it was deep. I wonder if this protocol will help sooth the nerve, which has clearly been traumatized. I think the amount of fear and worry I have around dental work is a big piece of this pain--at least that's what I am hoping.

Does anyone have success for healing a tooth following a deep filling? I'd love to hear.

ALSO: to be clear, what about sprouted grains? I cannot give up bread entirely so have been eating sprouted toast. And what about sprouted almond butter? That's another staple. The rest, I think I can handle. No sugar (some raw honey and maple syrup OK and dark chocolate in moderation); limited grains; cod liver oil/butter blend; oil pull in morning; essential oil on tooth; more meat and begins; grass-fed whole yogurt…..anything else I'm missing?

Hi Adrienne, would you please give us an update on your efforts to remineralize your teeth and heal cavities? It would be so helpful to many people. Thank you

Joy Clarkson AS, Licensed Massage Therapist, Spiritual Healer said...

I've been coconut oil pulling. Cut out sugar. Just fruit. Probably honey...maple syrup here, and there. Been eating good rice, but green veggy a day. Smoothies. In 3 days saw little white on top teeth, but bottom of tooth looks translucent. Maybe bit discolored still. How long will this take to heal? Also had filling fell out in back molar little over a year ago. Suggestions for time to heal that?

C.J. said...

So the dentist said your tooth healed itself or this was just a self assessment? Its possible for teeth to remineralize if the cavity has not reached a certain point in the tooth structure with little effort. The power of positive thinking is stronger than supplements in this scenario. Teeth aren't like that because of pregnancy anyway. I thought the same thing since my teeth remineralized shortly after giving birth and that is how i stumbled across your blog. Here it is explained by a dentist:

Our mouths are complete of micro organism. hundreds of various types stay on our enamel, gums, tongue and different locations in our mouths. some bacteria are beneficial. however some can be dangerous together with people who play a position in the enamel decay process.

tooth decay is the result of an infection with certain forms of bacteria that use sugars in meals to make acids. over time, these acids can make a hollow space within the tooth.

high protein low carb snacks scheduled program is easy, but it doesn't mean it's easy. Like any 12-week weightloss program just, you should have ups and downs. It is critical to anticipate those fluctuations beforehand. Some weeks you'll do great, and others you won't. That's normal. Be sure to listen to your own body and do what's right for you. Every workout listed is usually a suggestion. Substitute similar workouts if you like. You can always walk, go for a bike trip, hike with a good friend, or take your children to the recreation area for a casino game of tag or Frisbee to get some good activity too.

People should try as hard as they can to not get a filling. I have one tiny filling that decayed out after 20 years. I'm worse off than I was before I got it. A filling is not alive and can't fight off decay the way real tooth can remineralize. Once you get a filling you have to keep getting a bigger one everyt 10 years. Horrible.
