Health

What is good health and how is it achieved? This is something I haven't really thought much about. I want to be healthy, and for my kids to be healthy, but how are we healthy? I was thinking about this and I believe that God has given us all the tools to be healthy. Healthy whole foods, such as fruits and vegitables, and whole grains, beans, eggs, milk and meat.
I also believe He gave us legs to use and hands to work. My great-grandmother is still alive. Her husband passed away a couple years ago after a very long healthy full life. Here is a picture of them. Ruby and Harvey Lofgren. Married for 73 years!! Above is my great-grandma Ruby, she just turned 97 last month. I have asked them many life questions. Neither one of them ever had a weight issues, and the reason? They had to work hard! They both lived on farms, ate from their farms, and worked hard. We thank God for their long lives! Most of my family is very healthy. I am so blessed!! Both of my parents are healthy. My grandma Linda, Ruby and Harvey's daughter is very healthy so is my grandpa. My Dad's parents are very healthy and have always been active. I think I told you how my Grandpa Jack has ran several marathons. He ran a 60 mile race! And that was later in life. He got hurt around mile 15, yet he finished! My Grandma Linda, and my Grandma Virginia, and my great aunt Dootie all always make us home made food when we see them. (I love this). It is something so precious to me. I want to cook good healthy food for my family so we live long healthy lives. I want my boys to love healthy foods. When I make brown rice, or grilled chicken, or whole wheat pasta, I feel like I am giving them the best. And I think a huge thing for me is not using processed foods too much. I do have a Smart One for lunch every now and then because of time, but for the most part we are eating foods from scratch.

Obviously times have really changed, so instead of burning our fat out working, we have to do it in our spare time. Funny huh? Well there are people like my husband, who works labor all day long, so he stays thin with out working out. But most of people have jobs that don't require much hard manual work.
Monday I did TKB and abs. Tuesday was Spin, and Body Sculpt. Fewww. Body Sculpt killed my legs. Like always! Tons of lunges and squats. I noticed in Spin I am recovering a lot quicker now. A teacher said, the quicker you recover the better shape you are in. I use to not be ready to go after a 40 second recovery. But now I am ready at 30 seconds! Yay! After class last night I had to drop off our rent check, which is right by my favorite track. It was just getting dark, and I really wanted to see where I am in my endurance to run. Well... not good!! I was determined to do a mile.. but only did half. I ran 1/4 mile. Not good! I have to do 3 for the tri!! Eek. This shows me I need to focus more on running, swimming too.

So here's to losing weight, being healthy, active, and living long lives pleasing to Christ.

You're right Adrienne...being healthy is about eating the foods God has given us. I tell my girls all the time...if we eat food as close to the way God made it, stay active, and have a happy and positive attitude, we will be healthy. I think it's important to cook from scratch, I know I sure do. It takes a little more time, but it's so worth it. Thanks for sharing the beautiful stories of your family. You are very blessed.

Blessings,
Kimberlynn

Being healthy is the total package, I my goal wasn't to be skinny. It was to be healthy, which is why I focus so much on the physical stuff as well as the food. I work hard to teach my kids good habits and healthy lifestyles. It's such an important lesson and so many parents are missing the mark because they don't know better. Know better do better they say ;-)

You look a lot like your great grandmother. I see it a lot in the black and white picture of her when she was younger. When you were younger, and smaller your face was similarly shaped. At least from my memories. :) Very beautiful lady. Two of my great grandmas lived a very long lives too. But longevity and my family seems to be hit and miss. I agree lifestyle, food choices, and staying active is key. :)

I love your profile statement, "I want to honor God with my life." Me too, Adrienne! You are doing a terrific job so far. The start and current photos show quite the transformation. Keep up the good work! I know your kids, especially, will benefit from all the healthy things you are teaching them. Of course, after seeing your "start" photo, now I want to go on a cruise. Maybe that can be my reward for hitting my mid-range (60-lb) goal next year ... ideas, ideas ... haha
