The difference of ONE meal.

This is SUPER exciting.  I had read this before when I read "Cure Tooth Decay" but I looked it up in my book "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" by Weston A. Price {most amazing life changing book by the way} and was SO excited and motivated about what I read.  This is PROOF that it doesn't have to be "all or nothing."

I have suffered {yes it's a disease ;) } for EVER from "All or Nothing" syndrome.  It's Monday, I blew my diet, so I'll blow the rest of the week too.  Can't run all the miles for training? I won't run any.  Can't afford all the Organic healthy groceries I want and everyone says I should have? I won't get ANY.
Seriously this mind frame led me over weight and depressed. And ONLY when I realized finally that this was my problem, and that in fact SOME is better than NONE, did I change inside and LOSE WEIGHT!

I've been dealing with this monster again for my middle son Cody's health.  He hasn't been complaining of tummy aches anymore since I cut out then 4 months later reintroduced gluten back into his diet, (You can read here how cutting gluten out for a time helped him grow 2 inches in a short time). BUT as of late, he hasn't been sleeping as well, growing as much, or paying attention as well, as when he was on a full healthy nutritional diet & supplements.

You can read here how I healed a cavity in my own mouth!

Weston A. Price was a dentist in the 1900's and traveled the world studying primitive cultures and how robust and healthy they were compared to the modern American families who were plagued with cavities and physical and mental degeneration diseases.

Summary: Dr. Weston Price brought what he learned back to America, and during the depression, took 27 children, with sever cavities and health conditions and fed them a nutritious meal ONCE a day, and in as little as six weeks saw boys that could barley get around, to playing basketball.  They didn't change any meals at home, or take away any of the sweets and starches they were eating everyday.  They just added ONE NUTRITIOUS meal a day for these children

Here is what the book says.  It speaks for itself:  Pages 391-395 "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration".
(Remember, these children were in the depression.  Our kids may not need as much as they did if we give them healthy breakfasts like eggs and butter, and dinner like fish and veggies.)

-"One of the boys, who was so weak at the beginning of the test that it was considered questionable whether it was safe for him to walk the two blocks from his home to the mission for the one reinforced meal a day, in six weeks was able to play basketball."

-"During the experiment, the home meals were not changed, nor was the home care of the teeth. The preliminary studies of each child included complete x-ray examination of all the teeth, chemical  analyses of the saliva, and a careful plotting of the position, size, and depth of all cavities, a record of the height and weight and a record of school grades, including deportment.

-"It is important to note that the home diet which had been responsible for the tooth decay, was exceedingly low in body-building and repair material and high in sweets and refined starches.  It usually consisted of a highly sweetened coffee and white bread, vegetable fat, pancakes made of a white flour and eaten with syrup and doughnuts fried in vegetable fat."

-"The diet provided these children in the supplemental meal was as follows: About 4 ounces of tomato juice or orange juice and a teaspoonful of a mixture of equal parts of a very high vitamin, natural cod liver oil, and an especially high vitamin butter oil was given at the beginning of the meal."

-"The child then received a bowl containing approximately a pint (2 cups) of a very rich vegetable and meat stew, made largely from bone marrow and fine cuts of tender meat.  The meat was usually broiled separately to retain its juice and then chopped very fine and added to the bone-marrow meat soup, which always contained finely chopped vegetables and plenty of very yellow carrots."

-"The next course consisted of cooked fruit, with very little sweetening, and rolls made from freshly ground whole wheat and spread with high vitamin butter.  The wheat for the rolls was ground fresh everyday in a motor-driven coffee mill."

-"Each child was also given 2 glasses of fresh whole milk."

-"The menu varied from day to day by substituting for the meat stew fish chowder or organs of animals."

THE RESULTS:
"Clinically, this program completely controlled the dental carries of each member of the group, as determined by x-ray and explorer examination."

"It is important to note with the regard to the effect of the special nutritional program on this group of children that two different teachers came to me to inquire as to what had been done to make a particular child change from one of the poorest in the class in capacity to learn to one of the best. Dental caries is only one of the many expressions of our modern deficient nutrition."

"In many of these cases, the open cavities were left with out fillings; and in all such cases, the exposed dentin took on a hard glassy finish.  There were many other evidences of betterment."

One of these children had 3 molars that exposed the PULP of the tooth (ouch! this is where a dentist says root canal needed asap!).  This photo shows that they were healed!
It says below the photo, "Fig. 97 Three cases that illustrate how nature can close an exposure of the pulp due to dental caries by building a protective wall within the pulp chamber when the nutrition is adequately improved."

This next photo is of a 14 year old girl that had 42 cavities in 24 teeth!!!! She already had four molars pulled and the first dentist she saw recommended pulling all her teeth and giving her dentures! All of her teeth were saved after seeing Dr. Price.  Amazing.

I think we can ALL start with just one highly nutritious meal a day for ourselves and our growing children.  I'm motivated and will be doing a meal like this for lunch, once I go grocery shopping.  It is tricky, how to get a 4 year old to take Fermented Cod Liver Oil/High Vitamin Butter oil, but I think I'll mix it with applesauce and see if that works.  I can make a bone broth meat stew on Monday's and serve it for a few days at least.  :)

Nourishing Meals

I am going to start posting some of the recipes I've come up with that are gluten & sugar free (some sugar free recipes still have organic fruit & honey). Also I am going to be doing a tab & posts on "Nourishing Meals".  (I am still learning & I want to record everything I learn!) Traditional/ancestral food is something I am really learning about and things are clicking! For those of you that aren't familiar with Paleo, Weston A. Price, or "traditional/ancestral" diets, they are going back to the way people ate 100+ years ago. Paleo or "primal" eating is based on hunter gatherer diets of "cavemen".  (I am a bible believing Christian and I don't believe in evolution, I believe we were created by the Creator God. I refer to Native Americans & primitive cultures rather than "cavemen".) I also believe we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and God put Adam and Eve in the Garden and gave them everything they needed for health.

Weston A. Price was a Dentist (DDS) in the 1930's that was extremely concerned about all the dental caries he saw people were plagued with.  His child died of a side effect from an infected root canal, & he decided to travel all across the country learning from primitive cultures, studying their health and their native foods.  He found that every cultures diet varied, but all had one thing in common. No refined, processed foods.  He also ruled out that it wasn't genetic because he followed healthy, robust groups of people to modernized areas with processed modern food and found the same thing every time: degenerative diseases, including extreme tooth decay.  The children born to the parents that had moved from their native land had smaller heads, narrow jaws and dental arches, and crooked teeth.  His book "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" is truly amazing. It's loaded with pictures.  He gives the cure for tooth decay and all his studies he did, including children in the US with dozens of cavities. Dr. Price was the founder of the American Dental Association (ADA) and a genius in nutrition. Sadly today, the ADA doesn't credit any of his studies, and they don't teach anything Dr. Price discovered.  First recipe I want to share is a Berry Green smoothie...it was sooo yum!
1 Cup Organic Milk
1 Cup Frozen organic Raspberries
1 cup spinach
2 ice cubes
1 tbsp honey
1/2 a banana- Blend & serve.
Reece & Cody loved it. Shane is very picky about texture...sigh.

The second is a homemade Bone Broth Chicken Veggie Soup.  Dr. Price found that bone broths daily prevent and heal cavities.  This was really new to me. My mom use to give me chicken broth when I was sick (I had stomach issues a lot as a child).  I never knew why...I thought because it was warm and soothing.  Truth is bone broths (homemade not canned!)  are very nourishing!

I cooked and served 10 organic free range chicken bones the night before.
Of the ones the chicken was gone I stewed the chicken bones for about 16 hours (bring to a boil then simmer all night) with onions, celery, carrots, salt and pepper.
After 16 hours on simmer I strained it into a big container, then poured it back into the pot, added new carrots, celery, onion, skinned and chopped yams, and cut the chicken off the bones that we didn't eat and added those.
I also threw in some spinach for extra minerals, Pink Himalayan salt and Thyme. Cooked it for another hour or so then served! It was very very good.  You can see how it's kinda foggy? I read the more foggy the more nutrient dense.  I hope that's true! It's easy and a great way to get our veggies in.  Reece had two bowls lol!

PS, I'M REALLY CONSIDERING CHANGING MY BLOG NAME....TO "THE NOURISHING MAMA". WHAT DO YOU THINK? One reason is because, if you google "curvy housewife, my blog will come up, then, some not so good links & sites......LOL blah! Help!

Big Changes.

Last week weigh in: 181.9!!!!!! whoot!

Thank you all who prayed for my friend Karen. The funeral went well.  Please keep praying for her as she has to learn to live with out her husband.

Did I mention in a previous post I was gonna try to go grain/sugar free? Well you all know I have been having several issues with my teeth.  So, the nutrition junkie I am, I began to dig in here.

As the dentist told me, "You need one pulled, two bill root canals, and one regular filling" I cried.  Literally.  I did get my tooth pulled because it was infected, and I'm glad I did.  But the other teeth, $1,200 x 2 + $500? plus that's only one side of my mouth!

I came across Weston A. Price's study, which I bought and its on the way. I find this FASCINATING. I am a HUGE believer in the power of food, and the harm food can do to us.  This was my thought the whole time..."If a broken arm can heal itself, why can't our teeth?"  I asked my dentist.  "Can I heal a cavity on my own naturally?"  "No. Absolutely not. I mean, I know you will see stuff online, but it doesn't work." I don't think he's lying. He is a good man.  I think he's never seen anyone be successful at this. It is a daunting task isn't it? My plan is pretty extreme. Who wants to do that?

I do! I am only 27 and there is no excuse for me to have teeth being pulled and drilled left and right.  So I began to think....what about the people who didn't have dentists? And then I found Dr. Price's research. He actually traveled the world and studied different cultures and their teeth.  This is a Dentist.  He saw something was missing in America regarding our teeth and oral heath.  The rise of braces, and drilling is outrageous.

I found some amazing articles on this from health blogs.  How to remineralize your teethHow this women healed her sons big cavity.

I am going to plunge in big time. I have cut grains by about %50.  I am going to do it...make it %100. Ack, I said it.  I'm scared.  My plan....

1. Cut out grains (link, why they slowly kill you) such a great link. Answered my questions!
2. Cut out sugar
3. Fermented Cod Liver Oil/Ghee (already doing) totally nasty fyi.
4. Raw butter (which I made my self! already doing)
5. Bone broth- Oh.Em.Goodness. How did I never know this was so good for you!? not talking about store bought broth...but real homemade bone broth...tons of minerals essential to bone health!
6. Possibly switch to a more natural toothpaste....I already use Tom's.

I have been looking at photos of Native American Women, they all look like they have their teeth when they are old.  :)
I am always on a quest to find the right food for our family.  I have been fighting doing "Paleo" for a while.  Long while.  I use to say I'm against it. Grains are important.  Too much meat gives you cancer (yes if it isn't organic!). Jesus ate bread. Ect.  But you know how you find out what really helps you and your family?? YOU TRY IT. So...gulp. I think I am going to try the Whole 30.  I have lots of friends who's health has been significantly improved.  People I know personally who have lost a lot of weight and cured a lot of aliments.  My main reason are my teeth, my stomach (which has always given me problem since I was little), my over all health, and to lose weight.  AND so my boys will have health, healthy teeth and strong jaw bones and teeth that don't need braces.  REad that article! Amazing what Weston A. Price found in 1930's!!

Please don't judge ;) I am in search of what really brings health and heals. Sometimes everyone needs to switch things up. Especially if we have chronic or re-occuring pain, sickness, ect. AND DON'T WORRY..I WILL BE GOING TO THE DENTIST TO MAKE SURE I SEE PROGRESS! :)

PS I really need to start working out again!

Do you eat grain free? Advice!!

Love, The Curvy Housewife
